1965
Brian begins negotiations to present the next UK tour of the Everly Brothers.
The Beatles, with Brian and Wendy Hanson, stay at a hotel in Geneva.

Mr. Quintieri, member of the Italian Parliament, in the Chamber of Deputies, asks the Minister of Finance if 'appropriate measure has been taken to guarantee the payment of taxes on the fees paid to the Beatles and what was the amount declared and assessed.'

Bob Marley - Jah Soccer Head

Since everyone in the USA has world cup fever I thought I'd do a little post about Bob Marley's love of soccer aka football.





Many people are surprised to hear Bob Marley was a fantastic soccer player and fan. Bob Marley simply loved kicking a ball. About every single day when on tour or in the recording studio. He also loved watching soccer on tv. His favorite team was Santos Futebol Clube ( Brazil ). His favourite player was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, world famous as Pele, who began playing for Santos at age 15.





On a trip to Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, 197) Bob Marley joined in on a heated street soccer game with some fellow musicians, people from record label Ariola, Brazilian street kids and Paulo Cesar, member of the 1970 Brazilian World Cup team. Before the game the Brazilians had given him a number 10 Santos shirt ( Pele’s number). Bob Marley had smiled, and, while putting it on, was heard saying that, just like Pele, he too could play in all positions.



Many of his friends claimed that if Marley hadn’t been so dedicated to his music, he could have made it big as a professional soccer player. As a midfielder, Marley was quick and innovative.



“I love music before I love football. If I love football first, maybe that a bit dangerous, because the football very violent. If a man tackle you hard, it brings feelings o’ war!”



Many fans of Marley trace his ultimate death from cancer as a result of an injury he sustained during a soccer game in 1977 at a game in Battersea Park in Great Britain. Danny Baker, a renowned English soccer radio and television announcer at the time, allegedly stepped on Marley’s foot during a game, snapping his big toenail off. Marley later developed a condition akin to gangrene on the injured toe, but refused to have is foot amputated as doctors recommended, saying, “Rasta no abide amputation.”



Bob Marley was buried with his guitar ( Gibson Les Paul ), a bud of marihuana, a bible, a ring and a soccer ball.

The Newport 69 Pop Festival, June 20-22, 1969

Attended by 150,000 fans, it was the largest pop concert up to that time and is considered the more famous of the two Newport Pop Festivals, possibly because of the appearance of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which got top billing at the venue.[4] Devonshire Downs was a racetrack at that time but now is part of the North Campus for California State University at Northridge.



The Newport Pop Festival was originally billed as "Newport 69," and was held over the three-day weekend of June 20-22, 1969 in Northridge, California at Devonshire Downs. In published writings over the last 40 years, this latter event has been referred to as the "Newport 69 Pop Festival," the "Newport Pop Festival 1969" and simply the "Newport Pop Festival." Subsequently, much confusion has been created over the years between the 1968 and 1969 events. Some of this confusion was generated by the participating musicians themselves who, later, in their interviews, kept getting the two events mixed up.



Though the latter event was organized by a different set of concert promoters and had no connection what so ever to Newport Beach, it is believed that the 1969 Festival was intended to be the spiritual successor to the Orange County event, hoping to capitalize on the brand name and market momentum generated by the 1968 festival. Unfortunately, this move of venue was necessary because the 1968 event had fallen in disfavor with the local community leaders. Three days after the 1968 event, the Costa Mesa City Council vowed to prevent a Newport Pop Festival encore. "To say that we would not like it back here would be the understatement of the year," Costa Mesa Mayor Alvin Pinkley was quoted as saying.
